Session Description: With 20 percent of the nation living with a disability, employers and employee assistance professionals engage with the disability community on a frequent basis. From the impact of acquiring a disability from an injury, advent of disease, or the impact of aging, employees find themselves needing assistance in unplanned ways. Moreover, caregiving for children who are born with disabilities or parents who have disabling conditions impacts all communities. And with today's "ADA Generation" -- rising professionals with disabilities born after 1990 who know their rights -- the time is now to enhance understanding, improve policies and implement training to better connect human resources, talent acquisition and employee assistance professionals to drive disability diversity program progress, ensure retention of needed talent and knowledge, and build a more productive workforce.


EAPA is launching an initiative, the EAPA Disability Inclusion Project, to educate and frame solutions for our Members. To start, we are hosting a webinar on August 14th from 1:00-2:00pm ET with our partners from the Department of Labor-funded Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN).  EARN's trainer will review the Inclusion@Work Framework, proven business strategies that work for employment of people with disabilities -- from recruitment and hiring to accommodation and retention.  Best practices and resources will be provided and a preview of more disability inclusion activities that will occur during the EAPA Conference will be announced.
