UPCOMING MEETING SCHEDULE:

November 15, 2019
"Active Shooting & the Workplace: Prevention and Response"
Presented by: Tammy McCoy-Arballo,Psy.D. and Dr. Maria Luz Martinez

In recent years, the number and frequency of mass shooting events have steadily increased, along with amplified media attention and elevated public concern. The diversity of communities and environments that have been impacted and traumatized by shooting incidents have also continued to expand and multiply. As such, notable concerns about the threat and occurrence of active shooting incidents in the workplace have increased. Employers have begun to incorporate the rehearsal of “active shooter” drills in the workplace, alongside earthquake readiness exercises and fire drills as a standard component of emergency preparation plans.

In addition the utilization of behavioral threat assessment specialists and critical incident experts have become increasingly relevant roles for providing effective prevention and response to active shooting incidents.  Employee assistance professionals have a unique role to offer in their ability to provide both clinical expertise and workplace knowledge in assisting with prevention and response to workplace shooting incidents.
