The EAP field has been changing and the core values and principles from where the profession began are continually challenged. Ethics training has become essential for many professions and in some instances is a requirement for obtaining and renewing professional credentials. The EAPA Code of Ethics and the EACC Code of Conduct are the professional codes that guide the ethical decision-making of an employee assistance professional This ethics training is designed to assist the practitioner’s professional and personal understanding of EAP ethics in the context of these professional codes.
The course addresses:
- Ethical decision making processes
- Confidentiality within an EAP framework
- Boundaries / conflicts of interest o Conflicting expectations of organizational and individual clients o Ethical considerations when making referrals
- Distinction between ethical and legal issues
- Ethical issues in EA business practices
- Understanding applicable codes of ethics and conduct
- Role of mentors, advisors, and/or supervisors for ethical consultations
- Review and reference of EAPA Code of Ethics and CEAP Code of Conduct.
This course meets the EACC 2 hour ethics requirements for CEAP applicants and recertifying CEAPs.

As a result of attending participants will be able to:
- discuss the role and significance of ethics in professional practice
- identify the basic theoretical underpinnings of EAP ethics
- utilize a model of ethical decision-making
- reference the EAPA Code of Ethics and the EACC Code of Conduct
- apply ethical decision making processes to contemporary ethical dilemmas and their implications
Presenter Information:
Lisa Cooper-Lucas, LPC, CEAP -Lisa is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Employee Assistance Professional, and a Substance Abuse Professional. Prior to her position as Manager of Medical Services at DC transit, she provided care as a clinician in Johns Hopkins EAP, and she teaches graduate courses in ethics.
Henri Menco, LICSW, CEAP Henri is dedicated to supporting Health Care Providers to help them deliver the best quality and compassionate care as possible. She brings with her twenty-five years of EAP experience. She is currently the Quality Manager at Partners HealthCare EAP, serving approximately 53,000 employees and their family members.
Marilyn Rumsey, MSW, CEAP Marilyn is president and founder of Alternative Paths, Inc. She has extensive training and experience in psychotherapy, Employee Assistance Programs and Organizational Development. She was a principal author of Ethics in Workplace Counseling, a Casebook, published through EAPA. Marilyn has published numerous articles on ethics, intervening with executives, and various behavioral risk management approaches. Currently, she serves as Co-Chairperson of the International EAPA Ethics Education Panel of Experts.
Rebecca Williams, LPC, CEAP Rebecca is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Employee Assistance Professional. She currently serves as the Director of Employee Assistance Services for Caba, Inc. in Oklahoma City, OK. Rebecca has had the privilege of assisting employees and family members in over 60 organizations during the past 15 years as an Employee Assistance professional.
PDH/CE Certificates will be issued for the time spent in the online sessions after reciept of your completed course evaluation. CE contact hours are available for NBCC, NAADAC and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Cancellation/Refund - Registration fees are non-refundable. However, your registration may be rolled to the next offering of the course in 2010. Appeals to this policy may be made in writing (email) to plrmgr@eapassn.org.
