Time: 8:00 AM Mountain (U.S.) to 5:00 PM Mountain (U.S.) both days; 1 hr break for lunch on own each day

 

The Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) is excited to offer this "Gold Standard" DOT/SAP training program. If you plan to perform assessments for safety sensitive employees as a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) under the DOT regulations; or, if you need the required CEUs to maintain SAP re-qualification, you need to enroll in this training today.

What is the SAP Role? United States Department of Transportation regulations - 49 CFR Part 40 - define SAP as a person who evaluates individuals who are subject to DOT regulations and have violated DOT drug and alcohol regulations. SAPs make recommendations concerning the DOT employee’s education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.

What do I need to be a Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP)? You need certain credentials, possess specific knowledge, receive training, and achieve a passing score on a DOT approved examination. There is a 12 hour continuing education requirement every 3 years. Once SAP qualified, your 12 hour CEU commitment can be fulfilled through this course. Who is eligible to take this course? Anyone interested in working as a SAP or who works with SAPs, such as network managers or treatment providers who want to understand the SAP process.The SAP role is restricted to professionals who are: licensed physicians (including MDs and Osteopathic Physicians), licensed psychologists, licensed or certified Marriage and Family Therapists (as of 9/22/06), licensed or certified social workers, Certified Employee Assistance Professionals (CEAP), and alcohol and drug abuse counselors certified by the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) or the International Certification Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (ICRC) or a Master Addiction Counselor certification from the N.B.C.C.

About the Presenter: Dr. Tamara Cagney is a certified employee assistance professional, serving as internal EAP for Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore, California. She has over 40 years in both the public and private sectors, in unionized and non-unionized settings. As a distinguished member of the laboratory staff, Tamara has been with Sandia since 2000. She holds a Bachelor of Science in nursing, and both a masters and doctorate in counseling psychology. She has been serving as a DOT SAP for FTA and FMCSA since 1997. She has been delivering nationwide SAP DOT training since 2008. She is a clinical consultant for the Northern California Teamsters Assistance Program. She served as president of the Employee Assistance Professional Association from 2016-2018.
